The international Geomatics trade show InterGeo was on again a few weeks ago and Leica Geosystems have used the platform to announce their new range of manual total stations.
Gone are the TS02, TS06, TS09 and TS11 in comes the TS03, TS07 and TS10.
So, let’s have a look at what we’re getting. The range is split over three instruments with different capabilities and different price points. The TS03 is the direct replacement for the TS02 and is your entry level manual total station. It’s available with an angular arc of 2”, 3” or 5” and a reflectorless range of 500m. It improves on the TS02 by having the USB export as standard and may be edging closer to the current TS06+ in its most basic form. Nothing fancy on this instrument but if you’re looking for a no frills manual measuring then it may well be the instrument for you.
If you’re looking for something a little swisher, then you can start looking at the TS07. You get a colour touchscreen interface as standard as well as the ability to interface over Bluetooth or WLAN. Beyond that you get the ability to choose from a range of additional options to spec up your instrument. You get to choose a 1, 2, 3, 5” or (for some reason) a 7” version (though why on earth you’d offer a less accurate total station as an upgrade is beyond me), as well as have the option of a 1000m reflectorless range version and adding a second keyboard. You can also have a mobile internet side cover added so you can beam your survey back to base straight from the instrument.
The big difference and the big wow announcement is the addition of the AutoHeight module. No longer will you need to fiddle around with height tapes measuring the height of your instrument when you setup your instrument! You can now use the laser plummet to measure the height of the instrument. It’s accurate to 1mm at 1m and it’s a neat little trick to fit a receiver into the small housing of a total station. The downside though is that it is an optional extra on the TS07 and the price of the addition has yet to be released.
Top of the range now is the TS10 which replaces both the TS09 and TS11 manual instruments. Pretty much everything is standard on this fella (including AutoHeight) and you get the full Leica Captivate software to use to your hearts content. Options are the choice between a 1,2,3 or 5” version and the addition of a second keyboard and the mobile data side cover.
As ever at Opti-cal towers we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new toys and you’ll be seeing them on a site near you soon.
