“What? And have it crash every few days?” Was the rather clever reply.
We are lucky in surveying; Leica controllers are pretty reliable. The days of CF cards are long gone. However, the worst can still, and occasionally does, happen.
Jobs can corrupt, and hardware can go badly wrong. If this does happen, the key is to lose the minimum of your precious data. It is all too easy to lose all of it!
We are all used to backing up our documents on PC’s, but few bother with their surveying and engineering data. It is easy to do and here’s how:
1) Before you start, put a USB stick in the port on the bottom of the CS20.
The CS15 procedure is pretty similar; Tip at this first step, tap User.
On the CS20, go to Settings on the top row, all the way to the left.
You will see this screen. Tap Tools.
2) Now tap Transfer user objects.
3) Change the Object to transfer to Job.
You are most likely going to be copying the jobs
From the Internal memory.
To device in our scenario, is set to USB.
Tick the Transfer all objects of the selected type box. Now all the jobs on the
Internal memory will be copied to the USB stick
Tap OK or press F1.
And that is it!
After a time (depending on the amount of jobs you are copying), you’ll get a confirmation message. Once back on the Home screen, you can remove the USB and put it somewhere safe. Now if the worse was to happen, all you need do is follow the above reversing the From/To device options and copy all your jobs back to the replacement CS controller. Aim to do this once a week. You know it makes sense!
