In a year like this one, an announcement that there have been some improvements to a total station is probably not going to have a huge impact, but it’s worth noting. Anyone who buys a new TS16, TS13 or TM30 from now on will be getting a few extra bonus features.
The auto-height measurement feature that was unveiled with the release of the FlexField manual total stations last year has now been built into the rest of the Leica TS range. No more fiddling around with calibrated tape measures during setup, just push a button and your red laser will measure the height for you.
More interesting is the Dynamic-lock feature from the MS60 and TS60 is now available on the TS16 as well. Previously the Wait and Lock function relied on your prism moving into the view of the instrument's telescope which could be quite restrictive. Now the power search module is activated to send out a laser fan which will react when the prism crosses its path. Wave the prism through the fan and the TS will home in on it even if you’re moving.
Those interested in monitoring should note the ever-reliable TM50 has been replaced with the new TM60! Continuing the slogan of self-learning instruments in the Captivate range, a new feature called AutoLearn comes added. In combination with GeoMos Edge software, the feature gives the ability to locate any prism in a set search area automatically. Cutting down the time needed to locate the targets that need monitoring.
